a dance

(luh BAHL de zhoo-GAWn) = the dance from Jugon

OTHER NAMES:

The Little French Dance. Monsieur l' Cure.

BACKGROUND:

They say this dance is popular in many areas of France, but the best recording comes from Brittany, that part of France that really belongs to Britain. Boy! That should make some people mad! This dance was researched as part of the Breton folk revival movement of the late 1950's and brought to the US in 1964 by the Heberts. Back then, when it was almost the only French dance done in the U.S., it was called The Little French Dance with little chance of confusion. That's still an appropriate name.

FORMATION:

Couples in a circle, woman to man's R, all facing CCW around circle. Hands in "position papillon" (that's our varsouvienne position): L hands joined in front of woman's L shoulder, R hands joined above and forward of woman's R shoulder.
